The British Plastic Modellers Society was founded in 1963 in London very quickly changing the title to International Plastic Modellers Society as it expanded.
Today there are many societies around the world, a testimony to the popularity of the model making hobby. Each of the national societies is independent but all unite in a common aim of encouraging the ‘art’ of model building in plastic although nowadays many other materials are used.
Members range from the complete beginner to master craftsmen skilled in constructing from basic materials.
IPMS (UK) has many branches throughout the country plus numerous Special Interest Groups (SIGs) dedicated to particular areas of interest such as Aerobatic Teams or the Gulf War. Details of these branches and SIGs can be found on the national website (see the Links page).
In 2013 IPMS UK celebrated its Golden Jubilee.
